The City of Courtenay’s solid waste collection service is aimed at reducing the volume of landfill waste by diverting reclaimable materials at the curb. Curbside collection includes garbage, recycling, and yard waste.
Households are permitted one (1) garbage container per week.
Starting January 1, 2021, the curbside collection schedule is changing.
These changes are needed because the regional landfill operated by Comox Strathcona Waste Management will be closing on statutory holidays starting in 2021. The City of Courtenay is also redistributing collection zones and adding an additional collection zone due to overall community growth.
To accommodate these changes, the City of Courtenay is moving to a new “Add-A-Day” collection calendar. Curbside pickup will shift by one weekday after every statutory holiday. “Day” of pickup will become “zone number” as collection days shift throughout the year.
